16 Dec Final Blood Drive of 2022 Set for December 20
Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee and Williamson Medical Center will host a blood drive with Blood Assurance, the sole provider of blood products for WMC, on Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donors are encouraged to sign up here via the Blood Assurance website for an appointment time, though walk-ins are welcome.
The final blood drive of 2022 will be conducted in the Blood Assurance mobile unit in the parking lot of BJIT on the main campus of WMC, located at 3000 Edward Curd Lane in Franklin. Through November, these monthly drives successfully collected 151 whole blood donations and seven double red cells (Alyx) donations, representing 495 lives saved in 2022 to date.
“Blood assurance has been a valuable partner for our hospital as they help us fill a critical need for blood,” said Julie Miller, Williamson Medical Center COO. “Thanks to the blood drives they host here with WMC and BJIT, as well as the drives they host daily throughout the community, we are able to serve the needs of our patients.”
WMC and BJIT have agreed to extend their partnership with Blood Assurance to host blood drives throughout 2023. As in 2022, monthly drives will be hosted on the WMC campus.
“We are extremely grateful for our partnership with WMC and BJIT and look forward to continuing it in 2023 ,” said the nonprofit’s media relations coordinator, Max Winitz. “These blood drives make a positive impact in our community by ensuring lifesaving resources are available to our health care providers.”
To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids — avoiding caffeine — and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating.
