John Dee Dockery, M.D. is a board-certified physiatrist specializing in interventional spine care, non-surgical spine treatment, and musculoskeletal medicine. He diagnoses and treats a wide range of conditions affecting the nerves, muscles and soft tissues of the spine, helping patients relieve pain, restore function, and improve mobility through personalized, evidence-based care.

Dr. Dockery provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for patients experiencing neck pain, back pain, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, vertebral compression fractures, and other musculoskeletal conditions. His approach emphasizes conservative treatment whenever possible, utilizing advanced image-guided, minimally invasive procedures to reduce pain and improve quality of life while helping patients avoid surgery when appropriate.

His expertise includes a broad range of innovative spine and pain management procedures, including epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections, radiofrequency ablation (RFA), kyphoplasty, basivertebral nerve ablation (Intracept® Procedure), and other minimally invasive spinal interventions. By combining advanced technology with individualized treatment plans, Dr. Dockery helps patients regain mobility and return to work, sports, and the activities they enjoy.

Dr. Dockery earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee before receiving his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he developed extensive expertise in non-surgical spine and musculoskeletal care.

Before joining Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee, Dr. Dockery spent nearly two decades in private orthopaedic practice, providing comprehensive care for patients with spine and musculoskeletal disorders. His experience, combined with a patient-centered philosophy and commitment to the latest advancements in interventional spine medicine, allows him to deliver effective, personalized treatment plans focused on long-term function and lasting pain relief.

Dr. Dockery sees patients at Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee, caring for individuals throughout Middle Tennessee with advanced, non-surgical solutions for spine, nerve, joint, and musculoskeletal conditions.

Outside the office, Dr. Dockery and his wife are proud parents of three children. As a family, they enjoy traveling to tropical destinations, snow skiing, and attending sporting events together.
