21 Jan From The Patient: Ms. Jayne
Jayne is unstoppable.
In her late 60s, Jayne won a gold medal in the 5K competition at the Tennessee Senior Olympics. And at age 78, after three years of training, she earned her black belt in taekwondo.
“I’ve always been a very active and athletic person and looked forward to enjoying more active time in retirement,” said Jayne.
But age and effort caught up to her at the end of 2023 with increasing hip pain and diminished quality of life. A friend who had recently undergone a total hip replacement recommended Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee and, according to Jayne, it remains one of the best recommendations she has ever been given.
From the initial visit with Brian Perkinson, M.D., to the surgery in January 2024, and physical therapy, Jayne raved about her experience.
“Their expertise combined with the caring staff made the entire process manageable and highly successful,” said Jayne. “Paige Kloby and the team at the Brentwood Bone and Joint Institute location worked with me to understand my personal goals, strengthen my body, and get me back to the level of activities that I wanted to reach.”
Now, almost a year after the surgery, Jayne’s quality of life is better than ever. She is able to be as active as she wants, including securing four gold medals in the Central Tennessee Senior Olympic games in September, an event that Bone and Joint Institute proudly sponsors.
She is now training for the state and national Olympics next year and hopes to bring home some more hardware in her 80s.
But Jayne’s quality of life post-operation extends beyond that of her own athletic endeavors.
“It’s been so great to be able to cheer for my granddaughters at their track and soccer games,” said Jayne. “But it’s even better when they can attend my races and cheer me on!”
Jayne’s experience with Dr. Perkinson allowed her to return to the active lifestyle she once knew without the constant fear of pain.
“I would recommend Bone and Joint Institute to anyone looking for the best care imaginable,” said Jayne.
