03 Oct Byram, Calendine, Looney All Earn Top Doctor Honors in 2022
Announced annually by Nashville Lifestyles, three physicians at Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee have been named to the list of Top Doctors in 2022’s orthopaedic surgery category.
Of the more than 35 orthopaedic doctors named to this year’s list, the rundown included Dr. Ian Byram, Dr. Cory Calendine and Dr. Colin Looney. The 2022 list marks three straight years Dr. Calendine and Dr. Looney have been honored, while Dr. Byram makes his first appearance.
Each year, Nashville Lifestyles’ list is compiled by Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd. – an organization that patients have turned to as the official source of Top Doctors to find trusted, quality care for more than 25 years. Dr. Byram is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in treatment of the shoulder and elbow and sports medicine. Dr. Byram graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 2006 and completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where he served as the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery administrative chief resident. He completed fellowship training in shoulder, elbow and sports medicine at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, where he served as a team physician for Columbia University football and helped care for the New York Yankees. Dr. Byram is one of only a few surgeons in Tennessee to be admitted into the distinguished American Shoulder and Elbow Society (ASES), and one of only two members of the Association of Clinical Elbow and Shoulder Surgeons (ACESS) in the state.
Dr. Calendine is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing anterior hip replacement, robotic joint replacement, and partial and total hip and knee replacement. Dr. Calendine received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, and completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He completed his fellowship training in adult reconstruction of the hip and knee at the world-renowned Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute in Alexandria, Virginia. He has expertise in Mako RIO robotic-arm assisted surgery as well as revision hip and knee replacement, knee arthroscopy (knee scope) and treatment of arthritis and osteoarthritis of the hip and knee. Dr. Calendine currently serves as chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery for Williamson Medical Center, where he often hosts national and international visiting surgeons who come to learn about latest techniques and advancements in orthopaedic surgery. He also serves as an elite reviewer for the Journal of Arthroplasty, a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and is one of only eight surgeons chosen to serve on the international Mako Champions faculty.
Dr. Looney is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in care of the knee, hip, shoulder and sports medicine. His areas of expertise include hip arthroscopy with labral repair or labral reconstruction, ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, cartilage restoration and robotic-assisted total knee replacement and robotic-assisted direct anterior hip replacement. He also treats patients for general orthopaedic problems, such as fracture care. Dr. Looney earned his medical degree and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic (now the Steadman Clinic) in Vail, CO, and earned an additional certificate of qualification in sports medicine. Dr. Looney is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery the Piedmont Orthopaedic Society, and the International Society of Hip Arthroscopy.
